# Request a strategy

> Ask ShiftUp to draft a new sales strategy on an Account Plan when the AI hasn't surfaced one on its own — grounded in the plan's account intelligence.

**Request strategy** lets you ask ShiftUp to draft a new [Sales Strategy](/onboarding/sales-strategy) for an [Account Plan](/onboarding/account-plan) directly from the plan's **Strategies** tab. ShiftUp uses the plan's account intelligence to propose two strong directions and asks which one you want to develop — or whether you have another idea in mind.

Use this when:

* The plan has no strategies yet and you want ShiftUp to propose one.
* ShiftUp has surfaced strategies, but none match the angle you want to pursue.
* You have a specific direction in mind and want the AI to develop it grounded in the account's context.

## Prerequisites

* Access to the Account Plan.
* The plan must have **account intelligence** available — ShiftUp needs the intelligence to ground the request. On a brand-new plan, wait for the initial refresh to finish; the **Request strategy** action stays hidden until intelligence is ready.

## Request a strategy

1. Open the Account Plan and select the **Strategies** tab.
2. Click **Request strategy** in the upper right.
<Info>If you don't see the button, the plan's account intelligence hasn't finished generating yet. Wait for the plan to refresh — the button appears once intelligence is available, whether or not the plan already has strategies.</Info>
3. The right-side **Chat** panel opens, anchored to the current Account Plan. ShiftUp automatically submits a prompt asking it to review the available intelligence and propose two directions.
4. Read the two suggested directions ShiftUp returns. Each includes the angle, why it fits the account, and the pain hypothesis it would target.
5. Reply in Chat with one of:
   * **Pick one of the two** — for example, "Let's develop direction 2."
   * **Suggest your own angle** — describe the direction you want to pursue; ShiftUp will ground it against the same intelligence.
   * **Ask for alternatives** — ask ShiftUp to try again with a different angle or focus.
6. Confirm the direction. ShiftUp drafts the full strategy — hypothesis, pain points, stakeholders, business case, and MEDDPICC scaffolding — and it appears in the plan's **Strategies** tab when it's ready.

## Tips

* **Bring your own context.** ShiftUp Chat can look across ShiftUp data and out to public sources. If you know something the intelligence doesn't — a recent conversation, an internal signal — mention it in the reply; the drafted strategy will use it.
* **Iterate before you commit.** You can keep refining directions in the same Chat thread before asking ShiftUp to draft the full strategy.
* **Activate when ready.** A requested strategy lands in the **New** state on the Strategies tab. Follow [Activate or archive a strategy](/how-to/activate-or-archive-strategy) to move it into your active pipeline and link it to a Salesforce opportunity.
